KAI Design & Build is providing construction administration services, as a subconsultant to Jacobs Engineering Inc., on a project to build a new residence hall at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, MO.The new hall is expected to be ready for occupancy by the fall of 2009. The $24.6 million residence hall is under construction adjacent to Myers Hall and Vandiver Hall near the campus’ main entrance at Broadway and Henderson streets. Designs for the new 82,000-square-foot, L-shaped hall include double occupancy student rooms connected by shared bathrooms, multiple small living rooms throughout, and large game and laundry rooms. Each of the structure’s three upper floors will have a study lounge, and a dining facility will be located on the first floor. The hall is expected to house 306 beds. Part of the new hall’s ground level will open to Houck Field and be used as a locker room for the university’s football and soccer programs. An outdoor eating area and a series of paved courtyards are planned for the open area between the new residence hall and Vandiver Hall. Jacobs Engineering Group, in partnership with Treanor Architects, is providing architectural services on the project. Kiefner Brothers Inc. is the main building package contractor.
